Toronto, September 26, 2012 – Martin Hicks has joined the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO) as executive director of data and statistics.  He is the former director of the Postsecondary Accountability Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).

In his new role, Martin is responsible for all aspects of the data and statistics portfolio, working collaboratively with his HEQCO colleagues and external partners to oversee the building of HEQCO’s data infrastructure and capacity.

He has held a number of positions since joining MTCU in 1986, including director of the Universities Branch. In the 2007-08 academic year, he was seconded as vice president of planning and priorities at Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology. He received his BA and LLB from the University of Toronto.

“We are pleased to be working with Martin and benefitting from his extensive experience in the Ontario postsecondary sector,” says HEQCO president and CEO Harvey Weingarten.  “Martin is highly respected and has been involved in many significant projects that have shaped Ontario’s postsecondary system. His research expertise, familiarity with Ontario’s colleges and universities, and his knowledge of postsecondary systems around the world will be of great help to HEQCO as it provides evidence-based policy advice to Ontario and other public postsecondary systems.”
