Jessica’s research interests include education, digital technologies, student engagement and inequality. Prior to joining HEQCO, Jessica was a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo. While at Waterloo, she taught undergraduate courses in sociology, education and communication. She was also part of a research team exploring the role of new digital technologies in facilitating 21st century competencies in both K–12 and across the PSE sector. Her SSHRC-funded dissertation examined the impact of new digital learning tools on student engagement across Ontario school boards. She earned her PhD in sociology from McMaster University, where she was nominated for the Governor General Gold Medal Award for academic excellence. Jessica is also a certified teacher with more than six years of classroom experience.
